Statement from State Education Commissioner John B. King, Jr. on the Assembly's Action on DREAM Act Legislation
"The Board of Regents and I want to thank Speaker Silver and Assemblymembers Glick and Moya for advancing the New York State DREAM Act through the Assembly's Higher Education Committee. The DREAM Act has been and is one of the Board’s top legislative priorities.ÌýÌý
"Young New Yorkers who are willing to work hard and study hard should not be denied educational opportunities simply on the basis of their parents' immigration status. The Board strongly supports legislation -- like the DREAM Act -- that will give undocumented students the opportunity to access higher education.ÌýTodayÌýmarks an important step toward making educational opportunity a reality for all New Yorkers."
