NYS Next Generation Roadmap Spotlight - December 2019

Welcome to the December Ìý2019 edition of the NYS Next Generation Roadmap Spotlight!Ìý Educators, administrators, and leaders across New York State are sharing their journey towards implementation of the Next Generation English Language Arts and Mathematics Learning Standards. The Roadmap Spotlight was created to encourage district-to-district support and collaboration across our state, enabling educators, administrators, and leaders to benefit from the collective knowledge and experiences of colleagues.

In this edition, you will read about:

  • a group of school leaders from districts in the Schoharie Valley (Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Duanesburg, Middleburgh, Schoharie, and Sharon Springs) who, with support of the BOCES Partnership, have banded together to collaboratively approach implementation of the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards in each of their districts. Read more in Schoharie Valley Area Schools and the BOCES Partnership.Ìý
  • the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School District’s commitment to providing equity and excellence for all students. Using Surveys to Identify Professional Development Needs, the district partnered with Madison-Oneida BOCES and provided teachers with a variety of resources to provide equity and excellence for all students while moving forward with the Capacity Building phase of the Roadmap Implementation plan.

  • a one-day conference in Liverpool, NY designed by the Staff/ Curriculum Development Network (S/CDN) ELA Statewide Group. S/CDN’s Next Generation ELA Learning Standards Conference will provide a forum of educators from various New York State regions with an interactive opportunity to strengthen school districts’ capacity for the integration of the New York State Next Generation English Language Arts Standards into curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

It is our hope that these journeys support a multitude of districts as we move forward with the suggested activities outlined in theÌýNext Generation Learning Standards Roadmap.
