The Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBEWL) of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Â鶹ÊÓƵ) presents this next webinar in its 2024 Professional Learning Series:Ìý Using Authentic Resources for Proficiency Development from Checkpoint A to Checkpoint C.Ìý This webinar is offered free of charge for world language educators and administrators working and studying in New York State educational institutions.
Webinar description: ÌýFor world language teachers, especially those who teach multiple levels, a key question is how to develop students’ proficiency across grade levels and proficiency Checkpoints. In this webinar, the presenter will invite teachers to rethink the use of authentic resources as a tool for proficiency development from Checkpoint A through Checkpoint C. She will show how authentic resources, when paired with standards-based learning tasks and assessments differentiated by proficiency target, promote proficiency development. Participants will come away with strategies for using authentic resources creatively across the Checkpoints and ideas for saving time in planning.

Webinar presenter:ÌýÌýAmanda Silva received her B.A. and M.S. in Secondary French Education from SUNY Cortland and began her teaching career in 2001. She currently teaches grades 7 through 12 at Cincinnatus Central School in Cincinnatus, NY.Ìý She enjoys being the district mentor teacher for new employees, advises the French Club and volunteers on the Teacher Center Policy Board for Cincinnatus. Amanda is a proud member of the Mid-State RBERN World Language Council and the coordinator for the Cortland County Seal of Biliteracy Team. She is currently serving as the 2024 LECNY President. Amanda’s passion for curriculum development, the Seal of Biliteracy, and implementing the NYS Revised standards stems from her experience working in both rural and urban districts as well as with both middle school and high school students. She enjoys sharing what has worked in her classroom with other teachers and considers herself a lifelong learner and language enthusiast.
